Image may contain: text

Welcome back crafters :)
Last month I took part in Kylie Bertucci's International  blog highlights for February and I was lucky enough to be voted into the top ten!!
WOWSERS  now that was a surprise!!
I did a little happy dance when I saw that, hehehe

Thank you to all who voted for my card "High Tide"

I have been invited to take part in the Top 10 Winners Blog Hop.
Our theme is "Get Well Soon" as it ties in with the Feb highlights.
You are currently here with me, Kim Oliver

Now moving along....
I have seen on a FB page recently a card that had been made using a technique called Double Slider Card...The card I saw was made by Fran Ward but the technique used has been around for some time.

Her design gave me an idea for this Get Well Soon hop and also the Beetles and Bugs stamp set...I hadn't had a chance to use it yet....So, I did get rather excited.
 Hahahaha :)

Here is my card

Method

  1. I started by making sure all of my pieces had enough room to trim any tatty edges from after colouring and stamping had ben finished.
  2. I coloured the DSP first. I chose a piece that had a small bumble bee image in the corner.
  3. I then stamped the letters onto the whisper White making sure I had enough of each letter to complete my sentiments. I also stamped the outline of the largest bug here too. I also stamped the bugs inside colours before I fussy cut everything out (not the bugs legs)
  4. I stamped the outline of the bug onto a coloured flower.
  5. I layered the fussy cut bug over the stamped image and glued into place.
  6. I cut the silver foil and window sheets to make the magnifying glass and glued together using the fine-tip glue pen.
  7. I glued the magnifying glass and the sentiment to the DSP and the adhere that to the thick whisper white card stock.
  8. I proceeded to the inside slider parts. I stamped the bugs on one side and the jar with flowers and 2 small ladybirtds on the other. I asdded the pins to their backs. I then covered the bugs in Fine-Tip Glue to add dimension and shine...Some bugs also have clear wink of stella added for some sparkle. It rook around 30 minutes for the glue to dry completely so I could put everything together.
  9. I glued the sentiment over the jar image and added rhinestones..
  10. Stamp what ever image you would like inside the card to keep the theme going.

Slider Mechanism

  1. For the mechanism card piece...measure 1 cm in from both top and bottom corners on both ends.
  2. Cut a line from one corner down to the other on both ends, so you have a slit either end.
  3. Slide your plastic bag strip into one end, then pull and feed into the other.
  4. Wrap all the way around and fasten close with tear and tape.
  5. Place the right hand slider so it hangs about 1cm over the right edge and so it is also level with the left slit underneath.
  6. Adhere this card piece to the plastic bag strip at the left slit side.
  7. Place your left card slider under neath then turn everything over. Make sure you only have the slightest edge of the slider showing on the left side of the actual card front.
  8. Line up then adhere as per right slider (but in reverse...hope that makes sense)
  9. Check that all works by gently pulling the right slider card to your right.
  10. Add ribbon and adhere with glue dots.
  11. That's the mechanism completed now to close up!

Back to Method

Okay nearly done!
You will have noticed that the sliders are narrower than the card mechanism, front and back. This is so it slides smoothly.
  1. Put your slider machanism to it closed position.
  2. Measure and cut foam adhesive strips for the top and bottom of the right slider card and a piece for the left end.
  3. Peel backing and place your completed card front in place.
  4. Turn over and repeat steps 1 through to 3 but remember your short strip of adhesive foam will be on the right end now.
  5. OK time to add you card backing into position.
And we're finished...Whew that was one big operation!

But TOTALLY worth it

Just look at this gorgeous card!

'Jar of Love' - Throw Kindness Around Like .... FISHES!?!

Happy Birthday!

This special Blog post has been scheduled just for today....
You see, I sent one of these cute cards to a sweet friend for their BIRTHDAY!!!!
AND
today is that day!!

This person is also into card creating, like myself.
But boy is this person talented!
Soooooo, I wanted something I wouldn't be ashamed to send....
Something original, funny, cute and artistic!

BIG ask!
 lol

I had been seeing so many gorgeous 'Jar of Love' cards...I have even made a couple myself (yet to be blogged)
But they all seemed very similar....flowers in a jar, hearts in the jar, even a fish in a jar
Another creator Stephanie Fischer had just made a card called 'Ahoy There' (no jars anywhere) BUT it gave me an idea :)

I thought,  'Lets tip the jar over a little so it's almost spilling it's contents but not quite!
And have fishies inside, Jumping OUT!'
I think to myself....WOW!, yes that sounds original & allowed myself a little WHOOP of joy.
 AND got to creating...

Here is it.....

Happy Birthday !

The little one on the right is my first effort. Then came version 2 .... not alot different but made a little larger, just so I could add some little extra detail & not overwhelm the card.

You are probably wondering what I did for the inside??? Can you see inside a little :)

Ok I will stop teasing!
 hahahaa

Here is an open pic of the card.

I couldn't let the poor little fishies jump, not without having somewhere safe for them to land!

LOL
#Jaroflove #Happybirthday #frommetoyou #sentwithlove #KOCreationscards

I do hope she liked it...
As I scheduled this post on Sunday (19/6) and haven't as yet posted the card to her!!!
Gosh I am excited! hehehe

Anywho...

How I made my 'Jar of Love' cards:

  • I used Peek-a-boo Peach  A4 card stock & in colour backgrounds DSP.
  • Thick Whisper White was used as my card base and for the fronts.
  • I used the 'Jar of Love' stamp set for the jars, stamped onto an acetate window sheet in Stazon Jet Black.
  • The sentiment is a mixture of two from the same Jar of Love set and has been stapled together then attached using dimensionals.
  • I cut both jar outlines using Everyday Jars Framelits.
  • I coloured using my aqua painters and my Stampin' Write marker Island Indigo scribbled onto a stampin' block...I mixed  the blue at times with Craft Stampin Ink whisper White
  • For the inside I stamped the small jar in Stazon jet black as I didn't want it to bleed or run when painting my flowing water.
  • I stamped the fish in Peek-a-boo Peach and colored very carefully around it.
  • The flowers have been stamped in Peeka-boo-Peach while the leaves were stamped with Emerald Envy.
  • I added the smaller Rhinestones to the smaller flowers on one card.
  • I used the foam adhesive strips to frame up the fish jar (the one sent for the birthday) as it is a shaker card. I used it to raise the front on the smaller card. I used Stampin' Dimensionals under some flowers, to add more depth.

'HELLO' #GDP040 | CASE the Designer

'HELLO'

#KOCreationscards #Thewildernessawaits #Inthemeadow #Lovelyasatree #Jaroflove #Sponging

This week we have the opportunity to CASE the super talented Shawn de Oliveira.

As you can see from the design below Shawn's water coloring & sponging is just divine.

 #GDP040

When CASEing you can choose any element from the card to replicate. Be it the stamp used, the design or the technique.

I thought I would give the water coloring and card design a bash.

'HELLO'

#KOCreationscards #Thewildernessawaits #Inthemeadow #Lovelyasatree #Jaroflove #Sponging

Please forgive my image quality today, it is extremely overcast here so I had to have all lights on as well as the lamp. So I have a few extra shadows in some pictures.

How I made 'Hello':

  • I started by stamping two images of the fox from 'The Wilderness Awaits' stamp set, one onto whisper white & one onto reflex paper. I cut the reflex image out and used it as a mask to stamp the tree behind the fox.
  • I then stamped the image of the tree onto reflex paper and cut that out also.
  • Stamping the smaller flowers and grass from the 'In The Meadow' stamp set in front of the fox gives the whole image some more depth.
  • Placing my masks over the fox and tree. I spritzed the paper with water then I picked up some Dapper Denim ink onto my sponge and lightly sponged around the background area. Redoing areas I wanted a little darker.
  • I colored the fox & trees using my Stampin' Write markers, scribbled onto a stamping block then picked up with an aqua painter.
  • I let dry and trimmed to the required size.
  • After trimming I distressed the edges using a file.
  • Placing the water color image in the area I wanted on the backing card stock, I got my stamps that I wanted to carry over to the underside ready. I held them above my image in the general area then removed my water color and stamped onto the backing card stock.
  • Above the background card stamped area, I used the 'Hello' sentiment from the 'Jar of Love' stamp set.
  • Using my Tear n Tape I put my finished pieces together.
#KOCreationscards #Thewildernessawaits #Inthemeadow #Lovelyasatree #Jaroflove #Sponging

  • I finished of by creating a smaller image for the inside of the card
  • I tied twine around both images to the front and on the inside.
