This condition is one that is close to my heart.
I have family that deal with this and reactions from other people on a daily basis.
I have family that deal with this and reactions from other people on a daily basis.
So trying to create positivity and ensure greater public awareness of the condition is very important to me.
I have just a little bit more information about some of the behaviours of people on the spectrum and what we can do to aid and hopefully calm in times of distress.
*Stimming toys are toys that can be turned, spun, shaken and/or open and shut.
Fidget spinners, Rubik's cubes, figit blocks, chewy/bendy chains etc.

I hope you found that little bit of info helpful.
People on the autism spectrum may be hyper sensitive to sounds, touch, taste, smells, light and or colours. For someone with hyper-sensitivity, sounds that others may not notice can become overwhelming or physically painful and they may need to wear ear defenders to block out the noise. Sometimes this isn't possible especially if they are hyper-sensitive to touch. Conversely people on the spectrum may be hypo (less) sensitive and/or indulge in self stimulatory behaviours, like hand flapping, spinning, opening and closing items/doors or head banging.
This is quite commonly known as stimming and is used by those on the spectrum to self calm. You can offer stimming toys* to aid in lowering a child's or even an adults level of distress to surroundings or occurrences that may be upsetting to them.
Keeping calm yourself is something that helps in these situations too.
I know that sometimes stress can lead to a full blown tantrum and loss of control and that is something we all try to avoid for the persons sake.
Something we can do to help prevent (hopefully) an upsetting day is always talk about whats happening or going to happen and if possible have pictures available of new areas that you may be visiting. Let them choose a stimming toy* for trips and always have a spare toy or know where you can get another in case of breakages etc.

Here is my project that I created for this Awareness hop.
This project was super simple. I used the Sunshine Wishes thinlits for the letters of LOVE and the Sweet and Sassy hearts framelits for the heart flower.
With the idea of stimming in mind, I made the inside of this card slightly interactive with coloured hearts that can be flapped/opened and closed.
The charity I have chosen to donate to help raise awareness and support is
