Autism Awareness Blog Hop

Hello and welcome 😊
I am participating today in an Autism Awareness blog hop.
You are currently here with me Kim Oliver - KOCreations Cards. I have a NEXT button further down on this post to enable you to continue moving through the hop.

This condition is one that is close to my heart. I have family that deal with this and reactions from other people on a daily basis.
So trying to create positivity and ensure greater public awareness of the condition is very important to me.

I found this tip to be very helpful when communicating with my nephew.

If you have a family member or friend who is autistic please consider them when you are communicating.
Communicating with someone on the spectrum can be difficult at times for us, but consider how they feel!
Carefully consider their communication needs. If the individual has difficulty communicating their wants and or needs they tend to become frustrated and upset. Don't assume that because the individual is highly verbal that they have the skills to cope and adequately communicate when stressed or in unfamiliar surrounds and situations.
Think about showing rather than telling when trying to teach  or even talk about something new. Objects, pictures and or written information all help the individual absorb and is far more effective than just verbally telling.
Visual supports are beneficial even after the individual no longer seems to need them.
I know I like to have visual aids sometimes when learning about something new.
In times of high stress for autistic individuals these visual supports can be a great aid to them throughout their lifetime. Don't just suddenly stop using visual supports for the individual with out talking to them and their parents/team.
Being repetitive and patient may be frustrating for us, but in the end it does help the individual.

I hope you found that little bit of info helpful.

Here are my projects that I created for this Awareness hop.

Grow Your Awareness

#kocreationscards #autsimawarenes #autismspectrum #autismspeaks #growyourawareness #stampinup #cardmaking #papercraft

For the card above I have used a brand new set called Rooted In Nature. This was a given to me for my Onstage Display stampin for the Onstage Sydney 2018 event.
Using my Stampin' Write Markers I coloured my tree. I huffed heavily and stamped the image.
The sentiment was created using the Labeler Alphabet.
The little butterflies were created by water colouring a small piece of scrap thick whisper white and using the (retired) Timeless Tags thinlits.

Love the Person in the Puzzle

#kocreationscards #autsimawarenes #autismspectrum #autismspeaks #growyourawareness #stampinup #cardmaking #papercraft

For this little number I have used the Sunshine Wishes thinlits as well as the Sassy Hearts framelits.

I do hope you have enjoyed my projects today.
